DIAGNOSING HUMAN PERFORMANCE
The Need
One of the key needs of managers at all levels is harnessing the potential and energy of their people. This is especially important when minimum standards are not being met, or when there is a need to 'raise the bar'.
Fortunately, the factors that influence performance, be it substandard or exemplary, have been extensively researched and much is known about them. This workshop will clarify the ‘drivers’ that determine behaviour in the workplace, and how to diagnose performance and identify ways of leveraging results.
Program Structure
The program consists of four components:
1. Preparation – minimal, but essential.
2. Full-day workshop – interactive and practical.
3. Six week initial application of learning.
4. Sharing of successes and insights – brief written story.
To ensure maximum benefit from the program, it is important that you commit to completing all four components.
The Workshop
Most of your time will be spent working in pairs or teams, or in group discussion.
The following will be covered:
- The importance of being able to diagnose human performance.
- Why efforts to change behaviour and improve performance often fail.
- A model of human performance drivers (causal factors).
- Diagnostic questions for analysing poor performance.
- The “7 senses” that drive engagement and exemplary performance.
- Characteristics of work situations that lead to performance gains.
- Why sending people for training is often inappropriate.
- The Balance of Consequences Model for understanding motivation.
- Two fundamental rules for deciding on what action to take.
- Using ‘feedforward’ to identify improvement opportunities.
During the workshop you will share, analyse and discuss a real-life performance issue that is important to you (without identifying the people involved).
Benefits
There is no ‘magic pill’ that will eliminate the challenges of influencing human performance, however, the workshop will provide you with practical, research-based knowledge and tools that can be immediately applied in the workplace.
This know-how will enhance your ability to diagnose and understand human performance. It will also help you to better prepare for performance discussions and generally to implement and manage change. And, through application and reflection, you will be able to significantly increase the value of what was covered during the workshop.
The Diagnosing Human Performance program will help your decision-making and thereby contribute to improvements in key outcomes such as morale, productivity and customer service.
